Donate Blood, March 7

A call to action for blood donation, honoring the memory of fallen firefighters.

Manlius Fire Department Hosts Community Blood Drive

On Friday, March 7, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Manlius Fire Department will welcome neighbors and friends to its fire station at 8200 Cazenovia Road for a community blood drive in loving memory of fallen firefighters. This special day offers a meaningful way to honor their legacy — by helping save lives and strengthening the bonds of service that define our community.

Every donation can make a real difference. Community members are encouraged to participate, especially those with blood types O-, O+, A-, or B-, who may be eligible to give a Power Red cell donation* — a particularly impactful way to help patients in need. As a thank-you, all March donors will receive a $15 electronic gift card, and successful donations include complimentary A1C testing.**

Appointments are recommended and can be scheduled by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or by visiting www.redcrossblood.org and entering MANLIUSFIRE in the search box. Scheduling ahead helps ensure a smooth experience and allows the Red Cross to serve donors and patients as efficiently as possible. Please consider taking a few moments to reserve your spot — your donation truly has the power to save a life.

*A Power Red donation is an automated process where a donor gives nearly double the amount of red blood cells — the component in highest demand — by collecting two units of red cells and returning plasma/platelets with saline, usually in about 90 minutes. It requires specific blood types (O, A-, B-) and higher hemoglobin levels, allowing for donations every 112 days.

** A1C testing is a 3-month average blood sugar measure used to diagnose prediabetes/diabetes and monitor long-term glucose control.
