A somber ceremony on the 25th Anniversary 

The Town of Manlius sponsored a flag-raising ceremony at Town Hall on September 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Town Supervisor Sara Bollinger assembled participants for the observance, which honored those killed in the destruction of the World Trade Center, the attack on the Pentagon, and the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in rural Pennsylvania. The events of September 11, 2001, profoundly changed America’s perception of the world.

Councilor Michael Nesci recounted the immense loss of life and recognized the extraordinary heroism of firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, and other responders who answered the call that day.

Citizens and town employees attended the ceremony alongside first responders from the Town of Manlius Police Department, Fayetteville Fire Department, and Minoa Fire Department. A Manlius police official offered a moving account of the enduring weight the anniversary carries each year, both for the nation and for the first-responder community.

The ceremony continued as an anniversary flag was raised from half-staff to the top of the pole. Many in attendance stood at attention, hands over their hearts, while a trumpet player performed “Taps.”

The observance concluded as a respectful reminder that, 25 years later, the losses of September 11 remain deeply felt. It also affirmed the community’s lasting gratitude to the victims, their families, and the responders whose courage and service continue to inspire.
