Recognizing Two Outstanding Members

The Minoa Fire Department recently had the opportunity to recognize two deserving members whose contributions to the Department and the community have made a lasting impact.

Because they were unable to attend the Department’s Annual Awards Banquet in April, special presentations were made On June 22, 2026 to honor Steve Giarusso, recipient of the Honoree of the Year Award, and Rich Sabin, who was recognized for 40 years of service to the Minoa Fire Department.

Steve Giarusso – Honoree of the Year

Steve Giarusso has consistently demonstrated the dedication, commitment, and spirit of service that represent the very best traditions of the Minoa Fire Department.

Throughout his years as a member, Steve has been a dependable presence within the Department, contributing his time, knowledge, and energy to support both fellow members and the mission of serving the community. His willingness to step forward, assist others, and help strengthen the organization has earned him the respect and appreciation of his fellow firefighters.

The Honoree of the Year Award recognizes more than individual accomplishments—it recognizes the everyday commitment, teamwork, and positive influence that help make the Minoa Fire Department stronger. Steve’s service reflects those qualities, and the Department is proud to recognize him for this well-deserved honor.

Rich Sabin – 40 Years of Service

The Minoa Fire Department also recognized Rich Sabin for reaching an impressive milestone: 40 years of dedicated service.

During his four decades with the Department, Rich has served in many important roles. He has been an exterior firefighter, Lieutenant, and Captain, providing leadership both on emergency scenes and within the organization. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors and as Board Secretary.

Rich continues to play an active role in supporting the Department and the community. As the current Director of Medical Operations, he helps coordinate and provide medical support services, including maintaining the Department’s outreach to East Syracuse-Minoa school athletic activities, where Minoa Fire Department members provide medical coverage for sporting events.

He also continues his commitment to community service through events such as the Teall Run, where he volunteers his time providing medical outreach services.

Forty years of service represents countless hours of training, emergency responses, meetings, community events, and behind-the-scenes work that often goes unseen. Rich’s dedication has helped shape the Minoa Fire Department and has benefited generations of members and residents.

A Tradition of Acknowledging Service

The Minoa Fire Department takes great pride in honoring the men and women who dedicate their time and talents to protecting and supporting the community. Whether through emergency response, leadership, training, or community outreach, members like Steve Giarusso and Rich Sabin represent the commitment and tradition that have defined the Department for more than a century.

Congratulations to Steve and Rich, and thank you for your outstanding service to the Minoa Fire Department and the communities we serve.
