Fire Prevention Week — October 5 to 11

Learn. Prepare. Stay safe — together.

Every October, communities across the country take part in Fire Prevention Week to raise awareness about fire safety and help families get ready for emergencies. This year, Fire Prevention Week runs October 5–11, and the Minoa Fire Department is excited to join in.

We believe that kids + parents + firefighters = safer homes. That’s why we invite you to take part in activities and conversations that can build safety habits lasting a lifetime.

This Year’s Theme: Charge into Fire Safety!

The 2025 campaign focuses on lithium-ion batteries — the kind found in phones, tablets, e-bikes, toys, and more. They’re powerful, but if not handled properly, they can cause fires. That’s why it’s important to:

  • BUY batteries and devices from trusted sources
  • CHARGE them safely
  • RECYCLE them the right way

Why Fire Prevention Week Matters

Checking smoke alarms and making an escape plan protects your whole family.

Knowing what to do before an emergency helps you stay calm if something happens.

When kids and teens learn fire safety, they become role models in their schools and neighborhoods.

Minoa Fire Department is teaching fire safety at Minoa Elementary on Oct 3 at 9:00 and at the YMCA on Oct 3 at 3:30 p.m.

Why Families Should Team Up

Kids can notice things adults miss, like chargers left in unsafe outlets or blocked exits. Parents can tackle the harder jobs, such as changing smoke alarm batteries or installing new alarms. When everyone practices safety steps together, the whole household is better prepared.

Our Goal for You

By the end of Fire Prevention Week, we hope your family will have:

  • Working smoke alarms in every needed spot
  • A clear and practiced home escape plan
  • Ongoing conversations about fire safety
  • The confidence to share what you’ve learned with friends and neighbors.
